Mercedes looks ready to resume their dominance as the 2015 Formula 1 season is only a week away, while also renewing their partnership with the FIA, introducing their official 2015 Safety Car and Medical Car.

It appears we’ve seen the last of the gull-wing SLS AMG, as well as the old C 63 AMG Estate – as they’re being replaced this year by the all new Mercedes-AMG GT S and the Mercedes-AMG C 63 S Estate.

The GT S will take to the track featuring the same 510 HP and 650 Nm of peak torque as the road-going version. Its 4.0 liter V8 biturbo engine hasn’t been modified at all, yet remains fast enough, needing just 3.8 seconds in order to get from 0 to 62 mph.

The Safety Car is equipped with the DYNAMIC PLUS package which gives comprises dynamic engine and transmission mounts and a specific engine application for “RACE” mode. The package also includes tauter springs and damper tuning, more negative camber at the front axle as well as an adapted speed-sensitive sports steering system.

It will run the track wearing a set of light cross-spoke forged wheels with fully integrated wheel bolt covers, and measuring 265/35 R19 on 9 x 19 in the front and 295/30 R20 on 11 x 20 for the rear.

Behind the wheel will be 43 year old Bernd Maylander, who’s been driving the Official Safety Car of the FIA Formula One World Championship going on 15 years now. He is a former DTM driver who also works as an instructor for the AMG Driving Academy as well as a Mercedes-Benz brand ambassador at selected events.

As for the Mercedes-AMG C 63 S Estate, it will take over duties as the Official Medical Car, providing fast emergency medical care to any driver in need of assistance. The Medical Car will be crewed by up to three medics, but will be driven only by racing driver Alan van der Merwe. His co-driver is Dr Ian Roberts, the official FIA head physician.

As you know, the Medical Car follows the Formula 1 field in the starting lap, so that in the event of an incident, the medics are able to reach the scene of the accident pretty much immediately.

However, in those instances when a crash has taken place while the Medical Car is in the pits, its 510 HP and 700 Nm engine will make sure the doctors get to the scene of the accident in no time.

The old C 63 AMG Estate has actually been Formula 1’s longest serving official services car, having been deployed since 2008.
