So it turns out Honda will not be launching the Civic Type-R with the much more flamboyant rear lights it kept teasing us with. The production car has the more conventional design it also showed and was actually visible on the camouflaged prototypes we scooped, now that we look at them.

A reader over at WCF provided these very revealing shots that show exactly what the car will look like. There are no surprises other than the confirmation of which rear light cluster design they went for.

The design they went for will still give kind of the same effect as the concept when lit up, but in the daylight you’ll be able to see that they’re just plain old lights you’ve seen a million times.

It couldn’t have been that expensive to launch the car with them…

The Civic Type-R will officially drop its veil at the Geneva motor show that starts March 5.
